Zee announces co-production with Talesmith on The Lion's Last Roar.
“We are pleased to partner once again with Talesmith for The Lion’s Last Roar. They bring an extraordinary expertise into this sensitive & pertinent subject of “conserving Lions”

This premium documentary series is filmed in 4K and explores the highly engrossing topic of lion conservation. The population of the ‘king of the jungle’ is in an alarming freefall and 96% of this majestic animal’s population has been lost in just the last 50 years. Conservationists have been increasingly worried and struggling for solutions to halt the decline, including the contentious practice of trophy hunting as a way of raising money to protect the survival of the species.

With unprecedented access, in-the-moment action, observational documentary filming, incisive interviews and cinematic photography, the series hears from all sides of this emotionally-charged debate and will challenge the way you think about trophy hunting and conservation, whichever side of the fence you are on.Genre: Wildlife, 4K, No. of Episodes: 2 x 60 mins.

Sunita Uchil, Chief Business Officer of Zee Plus stated: “We are pleased to partner once again with Talesmith for The Lion’s Last Roar. They bring an extraordinary expertise into this sensitive & pertinent subject of “conserving Lions”. Outside Africa, India is the only other country where Lions can be seen in their natural habitat. The Gir Forest offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience this wildlife in its most raw, beauteous form. We are also pleased to announce TVF as our international distribution partner for this series.”

Martin Williams, Founder of Talesmith and Executive Producer added: “We’re thrilled to be working with Zee Plus on this hard-hitting series. Lions are symbolic of our ongoing struggle with conserving nature and the crisis that humanity has created. This kind of cutting-edge storytelling is in Talesmith’s DNA.”

Julian Chou-Lambert, Acquisitions Manager at TVF International: “As we approach our 40th anniversary, we at TVF have a long track record of successfully distributing blue-chip and topical wildlife from across the world, and so we’re delighted to be partnering with Zee Plus and Talesmith, who bring an incredible breadth of experience to this important story. Lions are among the world’s most magnificent endangered creatures, and understanding their complex relationship with humans is key to preventing their extinction. The in-depth investigation into this relationship and the comparisons between the conservation efforts trialed with African lions and Asiatic lions in India make this a unique programme, and we are very excited to present it to our buyers at MIPCOM and beyond.”

Zee Plus and Talesmith previously partnered on Life of Earth: From Space and Life of Earth: The Age of Humans, an ambitious, landmark documentary series for Zee Entertainment and Smithsonian Networks.
