Produced by Talesmith forNational Geographic and streaming on Disney+, Secrets of the Penguins isa landmark three-part series that reveals the extraordinary, never-before-seenlives of penguins across the globe, from the frozen expanses of Antarctica tosun-drenched coastlines. The series deployed 14 different camera systems acrossnine locations worldwide, pushing the frontiers of natural history filmmaking.

The production was executive produced by Talesmith Creative Director Ruth Roberts and Founder Martin Williams, alongsideHollywood director James Cameron and Maria Wilhelm for Lightstorm Earth, and Pam Caragol for National Geographic. Serena Davies served as Showrunner.

The Outstanding NatureDocumentary win places Secrets of the Penguins at the pinnacle of natural history television, while the Outstanding Cinematography award recognises the groundbreaking visual achievement of the “Heart of the Emperors”episode, which captured emperor penguin behaviour in conditions of extreme cold and darkness never previously filmed. The wins come as part of a historic night for National Geographic, which took home 13 News & Documentary Emmy® Awards in total, the most in the brand’s history.

The series has captured globalaudiences since its premiere on Earth Day, 22 April 2025, with viral footage, including penguin chicks leaping from a 50-foot ice cliff, generating over 40million views on Instagram and becoming National Geographic’s highest-performingvideo ever on TikTok, with more than 45 million views.
